Patterdale is located at the southern tip of Ullswater. There are two sets of directions below – one from Junction 40 of the M6 (Penrith) and the other is from Junction 36 (South Lakes) via the Kirkstone Pass.

By Car

From the M6 (Junction40)

Leave the M6 at Junction 40 and head west on A66 – signposted Keswick. At the first roundabout

(Rheged), turn left towards Ullswater A592. Follow this road for approximately 15 miles, following the signs for Ullswater, traveling down the side of the Lake.

Drive through Glenridding and past the pier for Ullswater Steamers, carry on to the end of the lake into Patterdale. As you continue driving you will pass St Patricks Church on the right and you will soon see the Patterdale Hotel also on the righthand side of the road, with the White Lion Pub on the left. Continue for 100 meters and you will see a road on the left, with a metal bridge over the river.  Take this single-track road, continue for another 100 meters and take a right turn. Continue along this single-track road, passing some properties on the left-hand side, continue travelling along the track until you come to two livestock barns on either side of the track, continue until you arrive at a courtyard, Crookey Cottage B&B is on the left and Crook a Beck Barn is on the right through a five- bar gate.

From the M6 (Junction 36)

Leave the M6 at Junction 36 and take the first exit onto the A6, signposted Kendal. This is a dual carriageway and continue along this road for approximately 13.4 miles. When the A6 intercepts A591 take the 2nd exit heading towards Windermere for approximately 10 miles, continue along this road until you reach a mini roundabout. At the mini roundabout take 3rd exit up a steep hill which is the A592 Kirkstone Pass Road. Continue following this road up the pass through Troutbeck and you will pass the Queens Head on the left-hand side. After 6 miles, you will reach the Kirkston Pass Inn on the right-hand side, as you descend you will see Brothers Water in the distance. Continue along this road, passing the Brothers Water Inn on the left, continue driving passing a sign for Patterdale and shortly afterwards you will pass Patterdale YHA on the right-hand side of the road, the road twists and turns through some sharp bends. Just pass the YHA there is a Bed and Breakfast – Old View, take the right turn over the metal bridge over the river onto the single-track road drive for another 100 meters and take a right turn.
